DWP TO PROVIDE Incentives for Customers Who Replace Lawns With Drought-Tolerant Landscaping LADWP's Residential Drought Resistant Landscape Program offers incentives to customers who replace water-hungry grass lawns with drought-tolerant plants.
The Incentive Program is meant to help residents reduce the amount of water used on landscaping, which accounts for up to 40% of water use in L.A.
The Program pays single family homes $1 for each square foot of grass removed and replaced with drought tolerant plants, mulching or water-permeable hardscapes.
Customers' plans must be pre-approved by the LADWP prior to installation and evidence of installation must be provided after the landscaping is replaced in order to receive the rebate.
One square foot of lawn needs 50 inches of water per year. Most drought-tolerant plants need 15 inches of water or less per square foot per year (about the average of rain fall that L.A. receives).
For information on the Residential Drought Resistant Landscape Incentive Program, call (888) 376-3314. For information on any of the Departments other rebates and incentives visit www.ladwp.com and click on Rebates and Programs or (800) DIAL DWP
